Successful treatment

The aim of successful orthodontic treatment is to restore an aesthetically pleasing, functional smile and ensure long-term stability.

The keys to success

1

Cooperation

Any orthodontic treatment requires cooperation. It is a factor in the success of the treatment that is based on trust between the patient, the practitioner and the assistants.

2

Brushing your teeth

Brushing your teeth must be done perfectly. We will give you advice at each visit and a hygiene area is at your disposal. Insufficient brushing causes demineralisation (white spots) and gum inflammation.

3

Dental check-ups

Seeing an orthodontist doesn’t mean you don’t need to see your dentist. We recommend regular check-ups with your dentist twice per year.

4

Caring for your dental appliance

Appliances are not unbreakable. It is therefore important to follow certain rules that we will explain to you. Breakages must be repaired rapidly at the practice and may increase the duration of your treatment.

5

Retainers

During orthodontic treatment, the bone surrounding the tooth roots is moved. Once the teeth are in the right position, it is important to wear a “retainer” appliance to consolidate the bone until it is strong enough to hold the teeth in their new position. How long the retainer must be worn varies: this depends on the malformation being corrected and the patient’s age. While generally around a year, the retainer may be required “for life” in adults.

6

Your appointments

To avoid extending the duration of your treatment, please attend your appointments as scheduled.
